Former MVP ends prestigious career in Washington
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Valor announced today that quarterback Erik Meyer, former Arena Football League MVP, is retiring effective immediately.
Meyer finishes his AFL career throwing for 13,904 yards (29 th all-time) and 312 touchdowns (24 th all-time) in seven seasons. His 120.57 career passer rating ranks seventh all-time. The La Mirada, California native and Eastern Washington alumnus played with the AFL’s Spokane Shock from 2010-14, the San Jose SaberCats in 2015 and Washington Valor during the 2017 season. Stops with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions, as well as NFL Europa’s Cologne Centurions and the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats highlight his diverse resume. During the 2013 season with Spokane, Meyer led the league in completion percentage (68.2), passing touchdowns (112) and passer rating (123.6) on his way to being named the AFL’s Most Valuable Player as well as receiving Russell Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Arena honors. He was named Second Team All-Arena in his lone season with the SaberCats in 2015. In Week 1 of the 2017 season, Meyer threw for 237 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Valor to a 51-38 win over the Baltimore Brigade, the first victory in franchise history.
