Carden Joins Rookie Elites – The presumptive Rookie of the Year, Shane Carden was at the center of all of the action in Week 14. He completed three touchdown passes of at least 41 yards, including the Hail Mary at the end of the first half that completely changed the tide of the game, and he finished with 271 yards and five touchdowns. By beating the Soul, Carden became the first rookie since Nathan Stanley in 2014 to knock off a defending ArenaBowl champion.

Racking Up the Sacks – Beau Bell picked up two sacks in short order of Carden in Week 14, and in doing so, he moved into seventh place all-time on the career sack list. Only five have ever reached 50 sacks for their careers before, but Bell is knocking on the door. With his two sacks on Saturday night, Bell also has 10 sacks to lead the AFL. Jake Metz was the league-leader in sacks in 2016 with just eight over the course of a 16-game season.

Benson Powers Into 3rd All-Time – Not all was lost for the Soul in Week 14. Mykel Benson had one of his better days of the season, accounting for 20 yards as a receiver and 29 as a rusher. But it was his touchdown in the third quarter that made the most headlines. Benson now has 104 career rushing touchdowns, allowing him to surpass the great Andre Bowden for the third most in AFL history.

Hills Ties Harrell's Touchdown Streak – By his own standards, Joe Hills was relatively quiet in Week 14, catching nine passes for 62 yards and three touchdowns. In the process, though, Hills improved his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown reception to 78, tying Damian Harrell for the longest such streak in AFL history.
McGinnis Becomes Top Sack Man in Cleveland – Robert Stewart held the all-time lead for sacks for the Cleveland Gladiators for quite some time. His team record of 20.5 sacks stands no more. Willie McGinnis now has 2.5 sacks on the season after picking up a half sack of Randy Hippeard in Week 14, giving him 21 for his Gladiator career.
Going Long – The Tampa Bay Storm opened up their game with the Gladiators in Week 14 with a six-play, 45-yard drive that ate 3:58 off the clock. That's a long time to have the ball in the AFL. But that paled in comparison to the 13 plays and 9:16 they ate on their second drive. The 9:16 was the longest drive in terms of time of possession since the LA KISS ran an 11-play, 9:23 field goal drive against Arizona back on June 27, 2015.
AFL Week 14 Odds and Ends
-The Brigade scored seven touchdowns in Week 14 by seven different players.
-Shaun Kauleinamoku now has 501 career receptions, making him the sixth active player in the AFL to reach 500 catches.
-It took the Soul nearly 59 minutes to register their first forced turnover of the game in Week 14, but they extended their streak of consecutive games with at least one interception or fumble recovery to 25 games, the longest such active streak in the AFL.
-Baltimore became the first expansion team to beat a defending ArenaBowl champion since 2015 when the Las Vegas Gladiators beat the Arizona Rattlers.
-Jeramie Richardson logged his 51st career rushing touchdown in Week 14, moving him into 22nd place all-time on the rushing TD list.
-Joe Hills became the 21st receiver in AFL history to top 700 career receptions.
-Randy Hippeard completed 31 passes in Week 14, tied for the seventh most in Storm history.
-Randy Hippeard attempted 51 passes, tying him for the seventh most in the history of the Storm. The 51 attempts were the most in a game this season and the most since Shane Austin attempted 56 passes for the Portland Steel against Cleveland on May 16, 2016.
-Robert Hayes had three tackles for loss in Week 14, tying him with Dexter Davis and Monte Lewis for the most tackles for loss in a single game in 2017.
