The match was tight at half with the Stamps leading 7-4, but the Red and White dominated in the final two quarters, scoring three touchdowns in the final 30 minutes to pull away from the Lions.
Stamps’ rookie Lemar Durant was stellar in the win with two touchdowns on three catches. Anthony Parker also provided impressive offence for the Stamps with 122 yards on only four catches and a touchdown.
With the standings already locked in, both teams chose to rest some of their starters in preparation for next week’s big game. Drew Tate got the call to start at pivot for Calgary and did not disappoint, throwing 18-for-22 for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Travis Lulay got the nod from the Lions, throwing 14-for-20 and 181 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
All eyes were on Andrew Harris and Jerome Messam entering the game as both players had their sights set on reaching the 1000-yard rushing mark for the season. Harris, the leagues’ leading rusher, needed only three yards to earn the milestone while Messam required 53-yards to reach the same accomplishment.
It did not take long for Harris to attain the feat. On BC’s first play of the opening drive, Lulay handed the ball off to Harris who ran for four yards to achieve the 1000-yard mark for the second time in his career.
Harris was taken out of the game midway through the second quarter, finishing his season with a total of 1039 rushing yards.
Lulay looked strong on his first drive, finding Terence Jeffers-Harris for a 15-yard gain on his first pass attempt of the game. Harris also added to the drive by rushing for 16-yards, his longest carry of the match, leading to a field goal attempt by Anthony Fera. The kick was no good at the Lions were forced to settle for a single to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Lions decided to gamble on third-and-inches on their next drive, but Harris’ rush fell just short and the Lions turned over the ball on downs to give the Stamps favourable field position near the 50-yard line.
Calgary would also gamble on a third down on the ensuing drive, needing to pick up only one-yard. The risk paid off as Bryant Moniz made a short dash to start a new set of downs for the Red and White. The Stamps continued the drive into the second quarter as Tate stepped up in the pocket and fired a pass to Durant at the back of the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown.

Lulay and the Lions would respond on their next drive with a 50-yard long ball to Gerardo Boldewijn, setting up Fera for his second field goal attempt of the night. He made no mistake this time around, notching a 44-yard kick through the uprights to narrow the Stampeders’ lead and end the half to 7-4.
BC continued to come on strong in the third quarter as Lulay connected with his favourite target of the night, Jeffers-Harris, for 38 yards to move into Calgary territory. Despite the big play, the Lions continued to have problems finding the end zone and once again turned to Fera as he made his second field goal of the night to tie the game.
That was as close as the Lions would get as the Stampeders offence took control of the game. An unnecessary roughness call against BC on the kickoff moved Calgary further down the field and Tate connected with Parker for a 70-yard touchdown on the next play to once again take the lead.
Calgary would strike again on their next drive. Tate aired the ball out to Parker, but both Parker and BC’s Cord Parks caught the ball simultaneously. The catch was ruled in favour of the team on offence for a 36-yard gain and the play led to a short run into the end zone by Moniz.
But the Stamps weren’t done there. Messam would finally reach the 1000-yard milestone in the fourth quarter with a 12-yard run, ending the regular season with 1006 rushing yards. The run set up a 22-yard pass by Moniz to Durant in the end zone for his second touchdown of the game to end the match at 28-7.
The Lions will look for a better outcome on Nov. 15 when they face the Stampeders in the Western Semi-Final at McMahon Stadium.
