Montreal's defence had a league best 207 points allowed through 13 weeks of play heading into the matchup and did not disappoint against the Bombers with one interception and one fumble recovery in the victory. Chip Cox and Jonathan Hefney had seven tackles apiece while John Bowman contributed two sacks in the strong defensive effort.
The Als' defence set the pace right out of the gate, forcing a quick Bombers' two-and-out on the first drive of the game. Logan began his impressive day by running the ball for 35 yards on the punt return, leading to Boris Bede’s first field goal of the game from 33 yards out to give the Als an early three point lead.
The Alouettes' offence continued to match the team's strong defenive skill as Samuel Giguere burst down the sideline for a 25-yard pick up to give Montreal favourable field position on their next drive. However, the Alouettes were not able to capitalize and were forced to settle for another field goal, this time from 35 yards out.
The Bombers first quarter luck appeared to be turning around after Matt Bucknor made an impressive interception, but the Als responded with a fumble recovery courtesy of Winston Venable just two plays later to regain possession of the ball. Montreal was able to capitalize on the fumble recovery as they continued the drive into the second quarter. Crompton connected with Giguere for 41-yards for the Alouettes first touchdown of the game to extend their lead to 13-0. The Alouettes would also add a single on the kick off.
After holding the Blue Bombers scoreless in the first 15 minutes, the Als continued their strong defensive play into the second quarter despite running into penalty trouble.
Nichols completed a pass to Kris Bastien for 19 yards to place the Bombers deep into Montreal territory. The Als were then penalized for roughing the passer and objectionable conduct to move the Blue and Gold into the red zone, but the Als held strong and only allowed Winnipeg to score a field goal off of the drive.
The Alouettes defence continued to dominate as Billy Parker intercepted a pass from Nichols on the Bombers next drive.
Montreal’s special teams were equally impressive as Logan bolted 78-yards for a punt return touchdown to cap off the second quarter and give the Als a commanding 22-3 lead at the half.
Logan continued to wreak havoc for the Bombers as he returned the ball on the opening kickoff of the half for 93 yards before being taken down at the Winnipeg eight-yard line. On the next play, Crompton hooked up with S.J. Green in the end zone for the Als second touchdown of the game to extend the lead to 29-3.
Montreal's QB Carousel

Crompton was named Montreal's starter at the beginning of the season, but was injured in the first half of Week 1. Since then, the Alouettes have used four different quarterbacks in his absence. With the win, Crompton's overall record as a starting QB improves to 9-3. View Career Stats
Bede notched his third field goal of the game on the Alouettes next drive of the quarter from 44 yards out as Montreal continued to run away with the lead.
The Bombers continued to battle and caught a break when Sam Hurl intercepted the ball in Montreal territory and returned it for 19 yards on a strong defensive effort. A 16-yard rush by Cameron Marshall moved the Bombers all the way to the Montreal 4-yard line, but the relentless Montreal defence held strong once again, forcing the Bombers to lose yards on their next two plays and settle for a field goal.
Winnipeg was finally able to find the endzone on a long drive in the forth quarter that was capped off by a one-yard rush by Cameron Marshall for a touchdown. Justin Veltung made the impressive two point conversion by dodging through the Als defense and into the endzone to cut the lead to 18 with eight minutes left, but the touchdown was too little too late.
Bede was a perfect four-for-four on field goal attempts, helping the Als pull away with a 17-yard field goal in the final quarter.
The Bombers return home on Sept. 25 to face the West Division leading Calgary Stampeders while the Alouettes will look to continue their strong play against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sept. 27 at Mosaic Stadium.
