Tampa Bay Storm faces the Philadelphia Soul on Saturday, August 5th
TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm (10-3) heads to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia Soul (12-1) this Saturday, August 5th at Wells Fargo Center. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
This is the 20th meeting between Tampa Bay and Philadelphia, and 11th on the road for the Storm. Philadelphia leads the overall series 14-5 and has a home winning record of 8-1. Last time out, the Storm fell to the Soul by a score of 62-41.
The Storm enters the game coming off of its final regular season bye week. The team faced the Cleveland Gladiators in week 16, defeating the team by 30 points. Offensively, the Storm was led by League MVP candidate Randy Hippeard who completed 22-of-36 passes for 234 yards and five touchdowns. He would also score a rushing touchdown to end the first half.
Offensive Player of the Year candidate Joe Hills led all receivers with 10 catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. He extended his streak of consecutive regular season games played with a receiving touchdown to 80 games. The night also marked the return of LaMark Brown. Brown caught three passes for 19 yards and a touchdown.
However, the story of the night was the team’s effort on defense. Veteran JACK linebacker and All-Arena Candidate, Alvin Ray Jackson, put on one of the best defensive performances of the season, forcing four turnovers. His four forced turnovers set a single-game Storm record. The six-year veteran reeled in two interceptions, and recovered two fumbles. He would return one of his interceptions 19 yards for a touchdown. The team defense held the Gladiators to just 13 total points, with the other 14 coming from turnovers.
Philadelphia enters the game after dismantling the Baltimore Brigade this past weekend. The Soul put up 70 total points to Baltimore’s 21. It was an all-around effort which saw quarterback Dan Raudabaugh find five different receivers. The standout receiver was Ryan McDaniel, who caught five passes for 66 yards and three touchdowns. Raudabaugh was nearly perfect, completing 10-of-14 passes for 137 yards and five touchdowns.
In the regular season finale look for both teams to come out looking for a win heading into the playoffs. It will be imperative for both teams to get off to a fast start and maintain in order to close out the season with a win.
