AFL's Inside the Numbers: Week 18

August 4,2017
Raudabaugh Could Join 700 Touchdown Club

Raudabaugh Approaching 700 TD Club – Dan Raudabaugh's list of career milestones continues to grow. The "Red Rocket" has tossed 697 touchdown passes in his illustrious career, the ninth most in AFL history. He has a chance to wrap up the 2017 season by not only becoming the ninth to reach the amazing 700 touchdown club, but he can also move into eighth place all-time on the career passing touchdowns list. If Raudabaugh does hit 700 career touchdowns, he'll become the youngest in AFL history (30 years, 129 days) to reach the milestone, surpassing Nick Davila (30 years, 357 days).

Most Touchdown Passes in AFL History
Aaron Garcia: 1,336
Clint Dolezel: 931

Tommy Grady: 701
Dan Raudabaugh: 697

Bell's Sack Attack – Beau Bell returned from a one-game absence in Week 17, and though he didn't record a sack, that doesn't take anything away from the season that he's had. He remains one of the top contenders for Defensive Player of the Year honors with his league-leading 10 sacks. That said, Bell only has one more shot in Week 18 against the Tampa Bay Storm to tie or break the franchise record for sacks in a season currently held by Bryan Robinson (11, 2013). With a huge game in this one, Bell could wrap up 2017 by moving into the top five in AFL history in the sack department.

Mike Lewis: 59
Joe Sykes: 53.5

Benson Edging Closer to 3rd on Rushing List – Just a handful of days ago, it looked for the world that Mykel Benson was going to finish this season just barely on one side or the other of Bob McMillen on the all-time rushing list. That said, in Week 17 against the Baltimore Brigade, Benson rumbled for 44 yards, blowing him past McMillen and putting him within clear sight of Bo Kelly for the third most rushing yards ever in the AFL. With 37 yards, Benson will have run down Kelly, perhaps getting him the chance to move past four legends in AFL history this season.

Most Rushing Yards in AFL History
Derrick Ross: 3,245
Bernard Morris: 1,705
Bo Kelly: 1,571
Mykel Benson: 1,534
Bob McMillen: 1,514

Toliver, Lewis Each Seek Scoring Marks – T.T. Toliver and Mark Lewis were teammates for three seasons with the Orlando Predators. In that time, both helped carve the path for their careers, helping them become two of the 15 men in the history of the AFL to score 1,500 career points. They're on different teams now, Toliver with the Washington Valor and Lewis with the Storm, but they both have an opportunity to move up the charts on the career scoring list to wrap up the 2017 season. Toliver (2,050) is two points shy of catching Chris Jackson (2,052) for the fourth most points in AFL history, while Lewis' first point in Week 18 will break a tie with Mike Horacek and move him into 13th place by himself on the all-time scoring list.

Soul Turn 200 – When you start talking about the storied franchises in the history of the AFL, the Soul surely are carving their spot out on that list. Philadelphia still has a long way to go to play as many games as some of the other traditional powerhouse franchises in AFL history, but the team that was brought to the City of Brotherly Love by Ron Jaworski and his connections will turn 200 regular season games old in Week 18. There are a total of six other franchises who have played in at least 200 games, and there are only four other cities who have ever had one franchise represent it for 200 or more games. The Soul enter their 200th game with 123 all-time victories. It's only fitting that the Soul play their 200th all-time game against the only franchise that has never missed a single game in AFL history.

Hills, Ings Hope for Storm Franchise Records – Joe Hills will finish this year with just 13 games played, but he's looking to accomplish something that no one else has ever been able to do in the illustrious history of the Storm franchise. Hills currently holds the record for the most receptions in a single season in Storm history with 133, but that was done in the 18-game season of 2013. Hills needs 11 catches to match his own mark. Meanwhile, Kendrick Ings can take down one of the all-time greats in this league with one more kick return for a touchdown. Ings has nine kick-sixes in his career, the same number the great George LaFrance had while playing for the Storm. Ings can become the first to get to double-digits in kick return touchdowns in Week 18 against Philadelphia.

Gray's Anatomy – Reggie Gray hasn't had many stretches in his career in which he's been kept out of the end zone in back-to-back games, but he hasn't scored since Week 15 against Tampa Bay. The Baltimore Brigade receiver is still stuck on 235 career touchdowns, tied for the 12th most in AFL history. Gray also needs 10 catches to run down Hunkie Cooper for the 16th most ever in the AFL. Hills also has accolades he's hunting in his career, as he could move perhaps as high as 17th on the career yardage list.

20: Joe Hills: 8,785

Thompkins Moving Towards 7,000 Yards – Brandon Thompkins enters the final week of the regular season in second place in all-purpose yards in spite of the fact that he has only played in 11 games. He's one of the three active players with at least 12,000 all-purpose yards in his career (T.T. Toliver, Reggie Gray) and could become the fifth active player to amass over 7,000 career receiving yards this week. Thompkins needs 48 yards in Week 18 to get to 7,000, and if he does get there, he'll join Toliver, Gray, Hills and Mike Washington as the only active players to do so.
