LA KISS Weather the Storm, 54-27

Tampa - The LA KISS (5-6) thoroughly defeated the Tampa Bay Storm (1-10) by a 54 to 27 margin on Saturday afternoon in front of 9,670 fans at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL.
The LA KISS were led by quarterback Pete Thomas, who completed 19 of 33 pass attempts for 210 yards and six touchdowns. Donovan Morgan snagged seven receptions for 72 yards and three touchdowns. Brandon Collins hauled in three catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. Fullback Rory Nixon added 13 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Tampa Bay Storm quarterback Jason Boltus tossed three touchdown passes and three interceptions, while completing 16 of 29 pass attempts for 173 yards. TT Toliver led the Storm’s receivers with six receptions for 91 yards. Mike Washington added five receptions for 53 yards and two touchdowns. Terrance Smith led the LA KISS defense with seven total tackles (six solo) and an interception. Josh Victorian tallied four tackles and an interception pass breakup. Clevan Thomas added two tackles and an interception. For the Storm, Cortez Stubbs recorded six tackles and Qua Cox made five tackles.

 

 

After Tampa Bay opened the game by kicking off LA KISS, Morgan caught a 21-yard touchdown from Thomas. The Joey Cejudo kick found the uprights and the LA KISS led by seven points with 12:36 left in the quarter. Then Boltus scored on a 16-yard quarterback keeper. The Delbert Alvarado kick was wide left, and the LA KISS led 7-6. The LA KISS took an eight-point lead when Nixon scored a two-yard rushing touchdown and Cejudo’s PAT was good. The ensuing Storm drive ended with Mike Lewis strip sack and fumble recovery. At the end of the first quarter, the LA KISS led 14-6.
The LA KISS took complete control of the game and scored 26 unanswered points in the second quarter. On the second play of period, Thomas connected with Morgan for a 2-yard touchdown. After a successful PAT, the LA KISS led by 15 points. Then Collins caught a 31-yard touchdown from Thomas and the LA KISS led 27 to 6 with 5:06 remaining in the half. Victorian intercepted a Boltus pass then Thomas tossed a 6-yard touchdown to Stephens. The kick found the uprights and the LA KISS took a 28-point lead. Following Terrance Smith’s first interception of the season, Morgan caught his third touchdown of the half. The halftime score was LA KISS 40, Tampa Bay 6.
Tampa Bay scored the first touchdown of the second half when Boltus pitched an eight-yard touchdown to Barnett, which cut the LA KISS lead to 27 points. Then Nixon scored a one-yard rushing touchdown and the LA KISS led 47 to 13 with 7:34 left in the period. At the third quarter, the LA KISS led 47-13.
At the top of the fourth quarter, Thomas lobbed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Justin Wilson, which extended the LA KISS lead to 41 points. The Storm did not give up and closed the gap to 27 points on two back-to-back Boltus-to-Washington touchdowns. The final score was LA KISS 54, Tampa Bay Storm 27.
The LA KISS will return home to the Honda Center next week, as they will host the Arizona Rattlers on June 26. The game is schedule to kickoff at 3:00 p.m. and will be available to be streamed live online via ESPN3/WatchESPN and on the ESPN app.
