OTTAWA – Henry Burris picked apart a Montreal secondary and set a CFL record in the process, passing for 504 yards on 45 completions in a dominant 39-17 Ottawa win over the Alouettes.
Burris set a new Canadian Football League record for most completions in a game with 45. In doing so, he eclipsed the previous mark set by Anthony Calvillo almost seven years to the day when he posted 44 vs. Hamilton on October 4, 2008.
The 40-year-old Burris was nothing short of phenomenal, keeping the discussions that he could be the leading candidate for the league’s Most Outstanding Player alive.
Equally as impressive as the numbers were the fact that Burris spread the ball around to seven different receivers.

» Preview: Alouettes, REDBLACKS
Criticized for their slow start last week in a loss to Toronto, the REDBLACKS came out of the gate on fire on their opening possession. Burris could not have executed a better drive, completing all 7 of his passes including completions to Greg Ellingson and Maurice Price en route to the game’s opening score. Burris capped off the 73-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge and ate up over 6 minutes of the play clock in the process.
More important than any of the action between the lines was the concern for Montreal DB Jonathan Hefney who engaged in a collision with Ottawa FB Patrick Lavoie and was tended to for several minutes before being assisted off the field. He did not return.
After opening the game with a two-and-out, Montreal started Rakeem Cato strung together a pair of first downs and the Als answered with a 38-yard field goal off the foot of Boris Bede to cut the REDBLACKS lead to 7-3.
The second quarter got underway the exact same way the first did, with an impressive Ottawa drive. Burris attacked the Alouettes defence over the top and underneath, completing passes to Price and Ernest Jackson before connecting with Chris Williams on an over-the-shoulder pass that notched an 18-yard touchdown and increased the lead to 14-3.
Penalties and the inability to sustain drives with second down production forced Cato the sidelines on the first two drives of the second quarter and the REDBLACKS continued to put points on the board.
Another methodical drive by Burris put the three more points on the board thanks to a Chris Milo field goal with just under six minutes left in the half.
A 34-yarder and a 13-yarder followed on the next drive and the REDBLACKS entered halftime with a comfortable 23-3 lead.
Burris was 28 of 34 for over 300 yards when the whistle blew at half.
A challenging first half for the Als go no easier when the third quarter got underway.
Despite forcing a turnover, the Als simply had no answer for Burris as he padded his stats on the first two drives of the half.
Lost in the dominant display by Burris was the play of Brad Sinopoli who had a career night.

The former Stampeders receiver finished the day as the game's leading pass-catcher with 7 receptions for 107 yards. He also closed out the REDBLACKS’ second drive of the half with a reception and a cut inside as he dove into the endzone and earned Ottawa seven more to extend the lead to 30-3.
Already down on the scoreboard and without Jonathan Hefney, injuries to the likes of Jerald Brown only compounded issues for the Alouettes.

Burris didn’t hesitate to pile up points on a battered Montreal secondary as he once again led a brilliant touchdown drive. The veteran quarterback spread the ball all over the field and then dropped a pass into Ellingson who after gaining 29 yards was ruled out at the 1-yard line. Burris finished the drive with his second rushing touchdown of the evening to put the lead at 37-3.

After the REDBLACKS added two points off a conceded safety Montreal determined that Cato’s day was done. Anthony Boone entered for his first CFL action as the fourth quarter got underway.
Cato finished the evening 12 of 17 for 74 yards, no touchdowns or interceptions.

Burris gave way to Danny O'Brien once the record was set and both he and Boone closed out the game from there.

After the game was well in hand, Boone connected for his first career major with sam Giguere but could not put make good on a two-point conversion.
There was another adjustment to the record book with under a minute remaining when Als slotback Nik Lewis hauled in his 855th career pass, leaping over Milt Stegall for 7th all-time on the League's receptions list.
The game finished with a touchdown when Fred Stamps hauled in his second as an Alouette on a pass from Boone.
The Als will look to regroup as they start preperation for thier annual Thanksgiving Day home game versus the Toronto Argonauts.

As for the REDBLACKS, they too have the Argos next after suffering a loss at home in Week 14.
