Portland Steel Lose to Arizona Rattlers, 68-21

Phoenix - The Portland Steel (0-4) lost their fourth game of the season to the Arizona Rattlers (5-0), 68-21, in front of 11,510 fans at Talking Stick Resort Arena Saturday night.
Steel Quarterback Kasey Peters made his first-career AFL start and completed 23-of-49 passes for 245 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. His main target was wide receiver Tyrone Goard who hauled in seven passes for 49 yards and three touchdowns.
Rattlers quarterback Nick Davila was named Under Armour Offensive Player of the Game after completing 14-of-18 passes for 246 yards and seven touchdowns. Arizona defensive back Arkeith Brown took home Riddell Defensive Player of the Game honors after making 10.5 tackles.
A quick start to the game by the Portland offense saw Peters lead his team into the end zone when he found Goard for a seven-yard strike and gave the Steel a 7-0 lead. The Rattlers quickly struck back and scored on a 48-yard touchdown from Davila to Rod Windsor. On the next Steel possession, Peters fumbled a snap near the goal line and Arizona defensive linebacker Tyree Glasper, the J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Game, scooped up the fumble recovery for a touchdown. The Rattlers lead 13-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.
After Davila and the Rattlers offense opened the 2nd quarter with three straight touchdowns, Peters found Goard for their second touchdown of the night from one-yard. Arizona led 34-14 at the half.
Goard and Peters were able to connect for another touchdown in the third quarter to open the scoring for Portland. Davila would find Windsor for a 11-yard touchdown to give the Rattlers a 54-21 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

 

 

Windsor would add a rushing touchdown to begin the 4th quarter before Arizona backup quarterback Shane Boyd would cap the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run. Windsor finished with five receptions for 91 yards, three receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.
